A Whimsical Winter Afternoon at Wynyard Hall for Sunday Lunch

Last Sunday whilst the North East was amazingly snowy (again!) I was invited up to the ever beautiful Wynyard Hall as I was reviewing their stunning new interior décor collection in The Glasshouse (review will be on Wynyard Hall's own blog very soon - I will be posting a link over to it shortly so you will be able to check it out if you would like to!) and I was also going to try their amazing Sunday lunch menu. Very exciting!

We started our afternoon with a walk around the gardens which were dusted in a covering of snow which looked very lovely and 'winter wonderland-esque'. Is anybody else amazed by how wintery it still is mid-March? I don't actually remember it being oh so cold at this time of year before! After we had looked around the gardens, we headed over to The Glasshouse and I photographed their new spring interior décor collection for my review (coming soon!) and then we went over and into Wynyard Hall for Sunday lunch, of course one of the best meals of the week! I don't personally have Sunday lunch every week so it was a lovely treat and something really different for me! Sunday lunch was served in the Wellington Restaurant which has a truly amazing ambiance, with high ceilings, original oil paintings, large windows - it is a truly ornate and opulent room which is lovely to be in as it has such a regal feel of grandeur which makes for a really special dining experience.

For starters I opted for their soup of the day which was vegetable (I love a wholesome soup on a cold winter's day, it's exactly what I needed to warm up a bit!) and my Mum opted for their pan seared tuna fillet. There was a nice side of tomato and rosemary focaccia and sourdough bread too for us to share.

For mains we both opted for a traditional Sunday lunch option of beef sirloin with roast potatoes, seasonal roast vegetables of parsnip and sweet potato, broccoli, gravy and a truly huge Yorkshire pudding! It was the biggest Yorkshire pudding which I had ever seen in my life! It was a really lovely traditional Sunday lunch that really had a homemade yet really refined feel to it.

For dessert I opted for the bread and butter pudding which was flavoured with raisins in the bottom and I think it had a rum flavour in it as well, with a lovely scoop of vanilla ice cream and poached apricots. My Mum went for their zingy tart au citron with zesty and refreshing lemon sorbet and cranberry jelly side which she said had really good pastry and a super fresh and fruity flavour to it. We were having a lovely afternoon in a truly magnificent setting, so we stayed awhile longer and enjoyed a tall hot chocolate and a good chat, which is what Sunday afternoons are all about aren't they!

Have you been up to Wynyard Hall before? If you fancy dining there too, you can check out their menus and book online here. Bilgi  x

We were kindly invited to Wynyard Hall to review their Sunday lunch menu. All opinions remain honest and my own.
