Festive Afternoon Tea at Wynyard Hall on a Winter's Day

Afternoon Tea is one of life's luxuries and a perfect way to mark many a special occasion. A truly wonderful way to spend an afternoon with loved ones, talking over tea and cake and taking in your exquisite surroundings, well that to me is perfection! Each time I visit Wynyard Hall, I am taken in by its grandeur, décor and design. With it's beautiful gardens, golf course and expert dining at hand to wow you, it's no wonder that Wynyard Hall is the North East's most loved destination. So go and grab a cup of cocoa and let me show you what it is like to spend a sunny winter's afternoon at Wynyard Hall.

Upon our arrival, we walked into the grand entrance and were guided to the Library afternoon tea room, which is a wonderfully ornate and opulent setting. With the gentle classical music playing, it really makes a lovely ambiance fit for enjoying a wonderful seasonal tea. When you first start your afternoon tea experience, you'll be handed a book-like case which holds a wide array of splendid Newby Tea and these are from which you select your beverage. I firstly opted for the Masala Chai as I love that sweet aromatic, spicy flavour and knew it would compliment all the sweet treats which lay ahead really well! I also tried the Cherry Tea which was so fruity and totally unlike any other which I had tried before!

The Setting of Dreams
The Library in Wynyard Hall overlooks beautiful, fairytale-like parkland and lakeside. In winter, this idyllic scene is dusted with snow, whilst geese and deer can also be seen out of the high windows. If you envisage what it feels like to be in a 'Disney-esque' manor house with antiquities and grandeur around every corner, this is the real life version that will take your breath away, it's that sublime. I also had a look in some of the nearby rooms and with the early afternoon light pouring in, illuminating the gold guild of the furnishings and sparkling tree decorations, it was a like being on a period drama's film set.

The afternoon tea comes in both traditional and of course vegetarian. You can check out the menu here on Wynyard Hall's site. The traditional menu includes Turkey, Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce on flatbread sandwiches, roast salmon, lemon, dill and crème fraiche brioche bun, goats cheese and butternut squash tart and a sage and onion sausage roll. The vegetarian variety has halloumi cheese and roasted pepper sandwiches and any other vegetarian options which are equally as tantalising.

They also have (my favourite part!) scones in plain, cheese and spiced cranberry dusted in a snow flurry of icing sugar powder, so yummy and complimented wonderfully by zingy homemade raspberry jam, butter and clotted cream. Decadent and so delightful! Afternoon tea wouldn't be complete without some cakes and patisserie, and Wynyard Hall's Festive Afternoon Tea came with a seasonal macaroon, star topped mince pie (a Christmas essential of course!), bake pear posset, salted caramel tartlet in a buttery pastry case, chocolate brownie (yum!) and many more sweet treats to sample! My guest loved the lemon and white chocolate dessert which is zingy and sweet all at the same time. Balanced and light, if you're a citrus lover you'll enjoy this so much! You can book in to enjoy festive afternoon tea up until the 1st of January! Book in here.
